It was great to see everyone that could make it to last night's call.  Jonny and his ever-lengthening beard provided lots of entertainment.  As Caitie said, it was great to be able to laugh with each other.  We had technical difficulties getting Grandma on and I will work with her this week to make that smoother.  My bad for not thinking of it sooner.  Athena's move was delayed so we were able to see Megan.  Now that the participants know what the call is about we will see next week whether they show up again, and bring other family members.

Our Changing Coastlines

I thought I would share NASA's tool for evaluating the changes caused by rising water levels as our glaciers and polar caps continue to melt.  Then, once I got started I found other tools.  You may want to take a look at what happens to various coastal locations near and dear to your life, such as Ocean Park, Bellingham, Half Moon Bay, New York.

Here is what Wikipedia has to say about rising sea levels:

Sea level rise

Sea level rise
Tide gauge measurements show that global sea level rise began at the start of the 20th century. Between 1900 and 2017, the globally averaged sea level rose by 16–21 cm. More precise data gathered from satellite radar measurements reveal an accelerating rise of 7.5 cm from 1993 to 2017, which is a trend of roughly 30 cm per century. This acceleration is due mostly to climate change, which is driving thermal expansion of seawater and the melting of land-based ice sheets and glaciers. Between 1993 and 2018, thermal expansion of the oceans contributed 42% to sea level rise; the melting of temperate glaciers, 21%; Greenland, 15%; and Antarctica, 8%. Climate scientists expect the rate to further accelerate during the 21st century, with the latest measurements saying the sea levels are currently rising by 3.6 mm per year.
While I am at it, I also thought I would share this prayer taken from the Unitarian Universalist website:

Prayer to Mother Earth

We pray to you, Mother Earth, with gratitude
For your holding and sustaining love
For the air, water, and soil that feed us
For the mountains and rivers and oceans that calm our spirits
For loving and supporting all beings and all creation.

We pray to you, Mother Earth, with humility
Help us to remember our place in the great web of life
Help us to remember that we are but a part of this great web,
and that we must do our part for all life.

We pray to you, Mother Earth, for forgiveness
For our ignorance and willful disregard of the damage we have done to you, to the air and the waters,
and the soil and the life of this beautiful planet.

We pray to you, Mother Earth, for fortitude
to uphold our part in reversing the damage we have caused,
for fortitude to make and sustain a commitment to do our part to heal the planet.

Mother Earth, in gratitude and humility, we ask that you hold us and sustain us,
as we strive to live in connection with you and all life. Amen

Feel free to post anything you want to share.

Love you all, Deanne.
